Skyhook Adventure - The Global Mountaineering School

We're a collective of fantastic guides, working in a handful of locations to bring you incredible courses and expeditions. You can find out more about our team below.


Skyhook was originally founded in Norway, so it makes sense that some of our most skilled instructors are based out here. We're passionate about showing our guests round the frozen waterfalls of Rjukan and the rolling Nordic terrain of Hardangervidda (igloo anyone?)

Ryan Simpson climbing

Ryan Simpson

Ryan is an MIC and Advanced First Aid Trainer. He has been climbing for 25 years and particularly loves coaching you on how to find the climbs just a little more amenable!

Callum Nelson

Callum is your friendly face in the hostel, and works as an assistant on some of the courses. He's an enthusiastic ice climber and adventurer.

Tom Carrick

Tom is a British Climbing and Mountaineering instructor, and you'll meet him working as an assistant in Rjukan. He has recently returned from Nepal, where he successfully summited an unclimbed mountain called Karbu Ri!

Anna Jensen

Anna is a graduate from the Danish Education Paul Petersen Academy of Outdoor Sports and works as an assistant in Rjukan. She's passionate about everything in the winter - ice climbing, skiing, snowboarding and touring!

Marta Garcia Aliaga

Marta is braving the Norwegian weather (she was born by the warm Mediterranean near Valencia, Spain!) as one of our assistant instructors. When she's not climbing mountains, she's making TV documentary films about current affairs and adventures.

Pieter Hendrickx

A Belgian climbing enthusiast who discovered Norway while studying outdoor education at the university of Sogndal. Pieter is on his second season with Skyhook Adventure as an assistant and hopes to be a mountain guide some day!

Luke Reader

Luke is your friendly face when you arrive at the hostel, and works as an assistant on our Beginners Ice Climbing courses.

Tom Brodie

Tom is a Norwegian High Mountain instructor and also holds the British MIA qualification. He previously ran the Norwegian Fjellogpaddleskole (mountain and kayak school) and claims some of the first ascents in Rjukan.

Lars Petter

Lars is a graduate of the prestigious Bø mountaineering school and can be found guiding month-long ski crossings of Greenland in the summer, or dreaming up his next first ascent in Norway during the winter, which is always harder than he 'expects.'

Erik Tordhol

Erik is a trainee ice climbing instructor and excellent apple crumble chef! In the evenings you can find him welcoming guests and joking around in the Old School Hostel.

Tim Oates

Tim is a British-qualified MIC and he's passionate about helping you gain the skills and experience to head out and have climbing adventures.

Calum Muskett

Calum is an MIC and aspirant IFMGA guide. He has climbed all over the world repeating test-piece alpine and big wall routes as well as establishing new routes in areas such as Norway, Patagonia and Jordan.

Donald King

Donald is an instructor of instructors, running many of the MIC assessments in the UK. He's softly spoken and very welcoming, and climbs pretty hard as well!

Jimmy Tarimo - Head Guide

Jimmy Tarimo

Having guided Kilimanjaro for over 10 years, Jimmy has an incredible ability to motivate you to keep going no matter how challenging the hike. He's also an avid Liverpool supporter and loves to kick a ball around in his down time.

Julius Mtongare

All you need is 10 minutes with Julius and you’ll understand why he has been awarded the Explore Worldwide Tour Leader of the Year award. He gives the team almost unlimited energy in the days, and in the evenings he knows some excellent campfire songs.

Julio Ludago

Julio is a passionate mountain marathon runner and goes for 'easy' training runs all over the national park, including up and down Kilimanjaro in just under 12 hours! He's also your friendly face in the local Chagga communities and loves to explain the local culture and customs.

Priver Motte

Priver is our head chef and quickly becomes a friendly face to spot at the end of each day's hike. You can't miss him - very tall and always wearing his bright red Maasai design uniform.

Jagan Timilsina Senior Guide

Jagan Timilsina

Starting over 15 years ago as a porter, Jagan has risen over the years to become a passionate senior guide for treks and expeditions. Jagan has climbed Mount Everest (to the summit) twice, won the Great Himal Race in Nepal and also works tirelessly to train up and improve the skills of new guides.
Dawa Sherpa senior guide

Dawa Sherpa

Growing up in the village of Pangboche, situated at 4000m, Dawa is a fantastic senior guide and high altitude porter. His father is a monk with the prestigious responsibility of conduction rituals for the climbers at Everest Base Camp.

Chiring Namgyal Sherpa

Born in the same village as Dawa, Tsering (as the other guides call him) is fantastic fun and loves to tell an inspiring story or two of mountaineering adventures in Nepal.

Sanjay Bhatta

Trained in wilderness rescue and first response, Sanjay is our go-to safety guy for making sure that everything is up to scratch. He's also a passionate guide and particularly likes to join you on the way to Everest Base Camp.

Bikash Maharjan

Bikash is our specialist for guiding bespoke and uncharted treks. He's also a kick-ass rock climber and spends his free time ticking off all the local classic (and hard) routes!


Based in Imlil, in the High Atlas Range of Morocco, our team of instructors are passionate about improving your winter skills and showing you the very best of Moroccon mountaineerings. Where else can you hike in the snow at -20C and then visit a beach at +30C in the same day?

James Kniffen

James spent ten years living in Morocco near the High Atlas Range and is fluent in Arabic. He is passionate about winter mountaineering, and holds the UK MIC qualification.
Lahouceine is a Moroccan High Altas Moutain guide.

Lahouceine Malem

Lahouceine is a Moroccan certified mountain and desert guide, and has also been trained in a pilot scheme with British-qualified instructors. A fantastic and caring instructor, Lahouceine has helped improve gender equality and mule welfare in the High Atlas Range.

Hassan Ait Brahim

Hassan supports Lahouceine with his great sense of humour and excellent knowledge of the region. He's also a Moroccan qualified mountain instructor and first aid trained.


Our team in the UK run the ever-popular Multi-Pitch Trad Climbing course in North Wales, and a few bespoke courses closer to London.

Rebecca Coles

Rebecca is a Mountaineering Instructor (MIA), International Mountain Leader (IML) and Wilderness First Responder. She has a Geography PhD and has climbed all over the world, but Peak grit, Welsh rock and Scottish winter are her favourite places to be.

Sally Lisle

Sally is a British MIA with a 1st Class degree in Sports Science and 10 years experience in the industry. She loves inspiring others through the outdoors and sharing adventures - particularly on pristine sunny rock and sea cliffs.

Jack Morris

Jack works in our summer rock climbing team and holds the UK SPA qualification. He's also a passionate ice climber and is working towards a high level UK mountaineering qualification.


The lifeblood of every expedition - our operations team are on hand to co-ordinate a swift response to any issues, and answer any queries that you may have.

Alan Cooney

Alan is a Norwegian High Mountain instructor who founded Skyhook Adventure as a way of sharing his passion for climbing and mountaineering. He’s climbed all over the world, including El Capitan in Yosemite and most of the frozen waterfalls in Rjukan, Norway.

Damien Baxter

Damien heads up developing our new courses in a handful of locations around the world. He is also a British-qualified Mountain Leader and every winter he heads out to Rjukan for the ice climbing season.

Gareth Peacock

Gareth is a British-qualified Mountain Leader and avid traveller. He's often the friendly voice on the other side of the phone, when you have a question about your trip or course.
