Snapshot of Greece Adventure Travel

Greece is a fantastic travel destination that offers the perfect blend of sandy beaches, and rugged mountains. The vibrant culture and rich local gastronomy only make it more attractive.

One of the most iconic features of Greece is of course Mt. Olympus. This rocky mountain with multiple peaks is famous worldwide for its place in Mythology as the home of Zeus and other Greek gods. Climbing Mt. Olympus is an appealing prospect for any budding mountaineer. Skyhook has partnered with a great local operator to bring you an exciting Mt. Olympus summit trip that will have you scrambling to reach the very top.

Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and certain areas can get crowded. However, there are still some 'secret' places where you can escape to enjoy the wilder side of Europe. Vikoos-Aoos National Park is one such haven. The park has a rich biodiversity as well as giving visitors the chance of exploring the earth's deepest canyon (relative to its width). This is the ideal destination for a hiking and rafting trip!

Greece has over 6000 islands, each with its own unique character. It's not surprising that water sports like windsurfing, sailing, or snorkelling are extremely popular. While on the islands, don't miss the chance for a multi-day trek on the unspoiled and charming Crete island.

Greece uses the Euro as its official currency.

Generally, Greece is a safe country for travellers, with a relatively low crime rate. However, as with any travel destination, it's important to stay vigilant, especially in tourist-heavy areas where petty theft is more common.

It is possible to hike in Greece unguided as many trails are well-marked. However, a guide adds a lot of value in terms of organization, safety and information about the landscape, history and culture. We recommend guided trips for summiting Mount Olympus as there are technical sections that can be dangerous if not with an experienced professional.

Although you do need a good level of fitness, you do not need technical mountaineering experience to join a trip to climb Mt. Olympus. The guide will provide safety equipment and teach you the short-roping technique. You will need a good head for heights!
