This trip is led by Akis and the guiding team in Greece.Meet your guides.
We will meet you at the Ioannina Bus Station and take you to Mikro Papigo village (1.5hr drive). We start the ascent toward Astraka’s Refuge through a lush forest for the first hour. Soon the old shepherd’s trail leads us parallel the Astraka Towers. These impressive vertical limestone cliffs are hundreds of meters high. The views along the way are particularly stunning. We spend the night at Astraka Refuge. Hiking distance 6km / 3 miles (3 hours).
After breakfast at the Refuge, we will hike towards the high plateaus of mountain Tymfi. After a short but steep ascent, we reach the famous alpine lake called “Dragon Lake”. Later, in the afternoon, we will return to the Refuge and take a break before we scale one of the most impressive summits of the mountain, Lapatos Summit. The route takes us over an iconic crest line. We spend a second night at the Astraka Refuge. Hiking distance: 12 km / 7 miles (8 hours)
Starting from the Refuge we have a long day ahead of us to scale the Tymfi’s highest summit. We cross isolated areas where we are unlikely to pass any other hikers. The reward for the tough ascent is the incredible view from the very highest point of the massif. This is a great spot for taking a memorable photo. After descending the mountain, we will transfer you back to Ioannina’s Bus Station (1.5hr drive) where the tour ends. Hiking distance: 16km / 9 miles (9 hours)
